 News at Proactive Parent

Well I blew it, and I know it. I owe all the Dads on this list a HUGE I’m sorry. It was your month- Father’s Day, and I didn’t honor you in the newsletter, how unlike me, I’m so sorry!

Well there’s a good reasons for this; there is no excuse, just a good reason.

It’s not like I have no Dads in my life to honor! There are my two Dads-yup I have two, as well as my husband and my 3 brother-in-laws, and I almost missed all of them too-oops!

The reason I’m late for this months newsletter is because our baby was born. No, I didn’t have another child-medically impossible. I gave birth to a website—again and for the last time or just shoot me now!

We are proud to announce the new website design, the 10 new seminars and the new prices. The prices have been reduced to $8.95, an almost 50% reduction to work with our economy.    No one should have to forgo parenting information in favor of gas!

There are 3 things I want to share and #3 is powerful!

1. The focus: The more I travel and meet with parents the more I’m seeing just how pervasive the use of timeout is. Most parents think timeout is the only resource they have to correct behavior, and that just isn’t true—especially now with our new website.

Our seminars are designed to give parents other ways to change behavior instead of just sending children off to timeout to figure things out for themselves. Which I don’t think, in my humble opinion, works very well for really little people who are still using immature thinking to view the world and their behavior.

The new seminars are topic driven. Each seminar focuses on one topic only and includes a full teaching coupled with real-life examples and sample conversations teaching parents how to resolve situations without always using timeout.

Each seminar covers the impact a developmental stage has on the topic and the child, and uses solutions based at preschool level to change behavior so it can be understood by the child, versus assuming that just because a child can walk, talk, is potty trained or going to school that he is old enough to figure things out all by himself.

2.  The delivery system
We’re the first parenting seminar company, that we know of, that offers short Seminars On-Demand.
  • The seminars are short 13-40 minutes and work with your life   and all that you have on your plate.
  • They’re convenient; you can listen anytime and anywhere your life takes you.
  • Listen during nap time, in the car, on a break at work, or after the kids are asleep.
  • Download seminars to your computer, then to your iPod or MP3 player or burn a CD.
 A very powerful message

We found an Australian organization, NAPCAN that is running a series of videos which are a part of a broader social /behavior change campaign. They have kindly allowed us to air their videos on our website!

This video is designed to show parents the impact they have on children. We felt this video's message, although designed around child abuse issues, has a profound message for all who parent children.

And we would like your feedback! You will find the link to the video, "Children See" below. Then at the bottom of this page  you’ll see a link for the ProActive Parenting Blog.

And you guessed it—I want to try out a blog. Okay, I'll be honest I can't keep up with a true blog at this moment, too much to do. But posting a video and seeing what you think, I think I can do that. This months video topic will provoke a reaction, I promise. Not all the videos will do this, some will be silly, and some months there just won't be one

Here’s how it will work.

1.  View the video and then post your comments and thoughts about the video.
  • Did you like it?
  • Hate it?
  • Want to see other things, not only from this organization but other video’s or articles to make comments about?
  • Or would you prefer that I post a question for all of you to weigh in with. That's the part I don’t think I can keep up with, but maybe.
That’s it for this month, too busy to do more. We’ll get back to the normal articles next month-I promise!

Enjoy the 4th and don’t forget to at least view the video-it’s one of the most powerful things I've seen in a long time with regard to parenting ! It will make you cry and…well—look for yourself.

Be well—Sharon

National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect

NAPCAN is..
Australia 's leading advocate for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
It is a national, independent, charitable organization with a clear purpose ... to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts.

Although ProActive Parenting does not focus directly on child abuse and neglect, a foundational premise of our seminars and workshops is that our children learn how to be and how to function in the world by watching us, their parents. Our actions and behavior directly and indirectly show our child how to act and behave.
